Additional Details: The goal of this study is to examine how children understand digital assistants or smart speakers (e.g., Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple Siri) as they grow up around these devices.
The study will be conducted in two phases. First, we will request your child to join an online video meeting (Webex) to conduct the study. Your child will be asked to interact with a research assistant and be guided to complete 3 short interactive tasks for about 30 minutes. Second, we will request you to fill out an online survey and questions will include demographic information (age, education, occupation etc.) as well as information on any digital assistants in your home currently and questions about how you regulate your child’s digital assistant use.
The online child video meeting will take 30 minutes and the parental survey will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Participating families will be compensated with a gift card as follows, $10 gift card after your child completes the online video meeting and $10 gift card after completing the survey.
